After reading this article it made me think about my time being a manger at Chic-Fil-A. There were many time where I had to deal with unhappy guest and take accountability for problems that I didn't cause. One time in particular a guest believed their meal was under cooked so instead of blaming the kitchen for the mishap I apologized, offered a refund, and also gave them a meal coupon for their next visit.

Your response is pretty much what I wrote my response on, except I was the unhappy customer. Even though it wasn't my waiters fault for my food being wrong, he apologized like you did. I personally think that you taking the responsibility and apologizing makes you a bigger person, rather than telling the customer to go talk to the kitchen! HA.
